As I write this, the skies are booming and a nice steady rain is falling. This is because we installed the first half of the drip irrigation on the weekend of course!
This week’s pick-up is Tuesday, July 12, between 2 p.m. and 6 p.m. I spoke to most of you last week about changing the pick-up day to Thursdays. I had originally reserved this day with the idea of setting up a roadside market in Chalk River, but it looks like the garden will keep me too busy to abandon it, even for an afternoon. Starting next week, pickups will be Thursdays.
It won’t be long before we’re seeing an abundance of beans, tomatoes and zucchini. With this in mind, I’m considering either a farmgate market open to the public, in addition to the CSA baskets, and/or offering extras to the CSA membership at a member discount. I’d be interested in hearing your thoughts on the matter.
If you have a half share membership (paid $300) and picked up last week, your next pickup date is Thursday, July 21.
If you are unable to pick up at the assigned time, please contact me and we’ll work around it. We try to be flexible.
Snap peas (a slightly greater quantity this week)
Fresh garlic bulb
Sauté medley (kale, chard, beet tops)
Turnips (Tokyo cross and Scarlet Queen)
Parsley, mint, basil or dill
Either Zucchini or Paris Market carrots (first harvests)
Some serving ideas…
Kale Soup (the sauté medley would work here since it’s mostly kale)
Sugar Snap Peas with Mint (Thanks for this one Claire)
See you at the wash station!
